Shit. I am writing a review of The Astro-Zombies right now, for posting tomorrow night — a review which has just been rendered as superfluous as wings on an octopus. Shit.

Hey, you and Nathan are the ones who stuck me with this detail, Ken!! *I’m* just trying to fulfill my oath of office [viz. “To Nag And Nag”.]

And that isn’t true, Nathan: Astro-Zombies is an excellent example of the kind of film it’s much more fun to read about than watch; and now, thanks to you, we get twice the fun! Think of it as taking one for the team.

Wings on an octopus would be fantastic, and very possibly appear in a Ray Harryhausen movie.

I was reading about Tura Santana on Wikipedia. She was gang-raped at age 14 (very uncool), but then went and learned karate and tracked down the offenders one-by-one and delivered the karate justice to them (very cool).

Lyz– I realize that, but you have to realize that I’m a ball of seething rage. Always have been, always will be.
What am I revolting against? Whatya got?

And I concur Nathan. I can’t wait to read your Astro-Zombies piece. Remember, the Cabal started all reviewing the same film, and all those articles were worth reading.

Matthew — At least, it would be a boon for those who don’t like drumsticks.
Ken — We even chose three of the same screencaps. Are people going to sue us for reading these both in the same week?

Well, I mean some of those images are a given. However, I still liked our first roundtable, and thought there was something cool about what observations overlapped between us and which were distinct. So again, I say Bring It On.
You don’t put wings on an octopus, that’s just silly. You put wings on the lion you embiggened and gave the brain of your sadistic mistress. Everybody knows that.

Wow, they let you do that? I gotta move back to America.

No, that was in Japan. I’m sure the lack of raping tentacles was therefore confusing.

In Japan you give wings to the lion. In the States, you fit the brain of a sadistic old lady into a cat.

Ben Stiller on his short-lived Fox show did a bit called something like “Yakov Smirnoff’s Last Concert”, where the premise was the Smirnoff was performing after the dissolution of the Soviet state which had rendered all of his gags moot. It was filled with close-ups of Smirnoff’s sweatfilled face as he tries to sell punchlines like “In former Soviet Union, TVs used to watch you!”
The bit is actually kind of cruel, and when Stiller did a commentary for the show’s DVD set after all these years, he seemed bewildered at how mean the sketch was. “I really don’t hate Smirnoff or anything,” he said.

Ah, the classic Peter Cushing mistake, never use the brain of a nobel prize winning charity saint, when a passing mugger will do.

Holy crap, Ken: you’re getting so many visitors right now your site has stopped accepting them!

More too many words than too many readers, I fear. I can’t believe we hit our ceiling of 50 visitors a month.
Hmm, I guess we’ll be down until tomorrow, then.

Which brings us back to my original point, doesn’t it? So come on, Nathan: that octopus isn’t going to put wings on itself, mister!

What movie is that from??? I know it was a Japanese wire guided flying submarine film. I thought it was Atragon at first, but it wasn’t. I still remember the mad scientist digging his scapel into the skull of the flying lion so he could pop the brain out like a tiddly wink: and it was 35+ years ago when I saw that flick.

obtw, finally got onto the Jabootu website to read the review. excellent job ken, now I gotta go to nathan’s site for cross comparison. i remember watching this on a saturday afternoon and thinking that this movie musta been edited to pieces because the parts on the screen didn’t seem to fit together very well. also there wasn’t near enough astro zombie action.

In the end, you’re better off just listening to the song “Astro Zombies” by The Misfits.
