New reviews at 1000 Misspent Hours and Counting:
Amphibian Man (1961), in which we learn that Russians are gringos, too…
The Heavens Call (1959), in which we have a look at the space race of the 50’s and 60’s from the other side…
Life Returns (1934), in which we see the lengths to which some people will go in order to make a buck on a few minutes of unusual documentary footage…
and
The Mechanical Man (1921), in which the Italians get an early start on flying their freak flags.

Did you see these Russian films as part of a Soviet Fantastica package? because they toured that here and the films are the same.
Also, I did not really like The Heavens Call all that much. I thought it was sort of silly and confused, although is had beautiful matte work.

Indeed I did. Sadly, the Charles Theater in Baltimore didn’t get the complete package (I’d love to have been able to see Aelita, Queen of Mars and Nightwatch on the big screen, and To the Stars by Hard Ways looks really cool), but I was still very pleased with the program we had.
