It’s my last stab at nailing down some sequels in The Month of 2, and do I make it count? Naah, not really.
For your delectation this week is Magic in the Mirror: Fowl Play (1996), a sequel shot directly on the heels of its predecessor, and Return to Frogtown (1993), a movie made a little too long after the original: They couldn’t get Rowdy Roddy back!

I never thought I’d say this, but—
Roddy was hardly needed, was he??

Roddy is always needed. Always.

There are 4 Frogtown movies? Wow. Just think, even the Godfather pretty much ran out of steam after part 2. Is there anything that can’t be turned into a franchise? How low do costs have to be for these movies to be worth making?

As long as the frog masks are still intact and Joe Estevez has nothing better to do…

Pointless memory: I remember seeing the title to the first film appear in the TV Guide and then reading the plot synopsis: “A man tries impregnate the last fertile woman.” I remember reading that and asking myself, “What the heck does that have to do with town full of frogs?”

I have never once had the slightest bit of interest in seeing the second Frogtown movie.
Then I get a look at that cast list, which Ms. Kingsley provided, and further find out Rober Z’Dar is in a non-villainous role.
Now I want to see it quite a bit.
I dare not ponder why this is, and what it says of me. I fear it would be akin to trying to decipher the true form of Daoloth.
I do know, however, that somehow, someday…Mr. Shumate and Ms. Kingsley must pay for this.

Hey, *I* ain’t paying for nothing! I’m the one who told everyone it isn’t nearly as good as the first one, aren’t I?

That settles it. We need some kind of disclaimer on this blog. “The B-Masters: All Care Taken, No Responsibility Accepted.”

‘All care taken, no responsibility accepted’? Well, too late. It wasn’t there when I started reading, I’m blaming each and every one of you, and you’ll be hearing from my lawyers.
Of course you know I’ll only be spending the compensation on Grizzly or something like that. Curse you all!

You’re the one who blabbed about Z’Dar being the hero, Shumate. That was all the nudge I needed.
And as the Baron said, too little too late.
I’m totally planning a Dr. Phibes-esque vengeance upon thee. Don’t be surprised if you wake up some day with a fruit bat or noisy scorpion on your chest and a gorgeous woman playing violin in the corner.
And somewhere far away, I’ll be pounding away at a big-ass organ and muttering about eternities of doom into a dictaphone.
TREMBLE YE MORTALS!!!

You know, looking at Robert Z’Dar, I’m reminded of what Chris of Stomp Tokyo said about Danny Trejo: “When somebody with a jail record and an ugly face can have a successful movie career, it’s a good country.” While Z’Dar isn’t an ex-con (but an ex-cop), the fact that he’s had a stable movie career since the 1980s says some good things about America.

At this point, I look at watching any movie we recommend as a lesson in fire taught by a cantankerous grandfather.
Me: Can I touch fire?
Grandpa: Sure, go ahead.
Me: Owwwww!!!!!
Grandpa: Hurts, don’t it? Go on and try it again.
Me: OWWWWWW!!!!
Grandpa: Boy, you are about as sharp as a sack of wet mice.
