Karloff, Karloff, Karloff… Well, it was either this or The Ghoul, and finally I decided that what we needed around here was a little mad science. In The Walking Dead, Karloff plays musician John Ellman, framed and executed for the murder of a judge. Fortunately for Ellman – or is it? – scientist Dr Evan Beaumont just happens to be working on the artificial extension of life. But the Ellman who returns is not the man who died; and as the men responsible for his death themselves begin to die, it becomes apparent that someone – or Someone – is working through him…

Noted, thanks. I won’t try to fix it until I get home, though; not after LAST time. (‘Cos Nathan would smack me!)

Good review, Lyz. Seems like both you and El Santo found it to be an entertaining mixture of genres.

I think what makes The Walking Dead work is that it is so matter of fact about everything; it treats its science fiction/supernatural content exacly as it does its crime drama.

Wow, I’d never heard of this. Sounds very interesting. (Though that may be your fault.)

No, it *is* interesting, honest. (Anyone want to back me up on that??) The fact that it is Warners rather than Universal has seen it slip through the DVD cracks, unfortunately; it certainly deserves to be better known.

I’m generally much harder on 1930’s Hollywood horror films than Lyz is, and I think The Walking Dead is one of the best of the bunch– probably equal to Svengali, and certainly way better than the tiresome likes of Doctor X and The Mystery of the Wax Museum, to frame it in terms of its studio’s output in the genre.
