Difficult personal circumstances + inability to concentrate + world’s slowest interlibrary loan = more housekeeping. Sorry!
.
.
This time I’ve recovered and overhauled one of my earliest reviews, that of AROUND THE WORLD UNDER THE SEA (1966); a film so appallingly sexist that not even a giant killer moray eel can save it.
.
[Warning: screenshot may make film seem far more entertaining than it actually is.]
.
I’ve also re-formatted and added screenshots to ATLANTIS, THE LOST CONTINENT (1961).

“Atlantis, the Lost Continent” is one of the greatest disappointments of 50s/60s genre cinema that I’ve seen.

Atlantis loses out horribly by only screening in P&S; even in those prints its obvious that all the film has going for it is the production design. As things are, we’re just left with – *shudder* – the story and the acting.
Oh. And the hats.

OK, I always meant to ask about this…
“Nowhere in the world – not even in Melbourne on the first Tuesday in November – will you ever see a bigger collection of ludicrous headgear.”
What’s all this then? Is it something fun? If I’m ever able to visit Melbourne, should I make a point of being there that day? I have a few ridiculous hats from my college days…

By the time I finished reading this review, my lungs were aching for air!
…all social comments thrown aside in favour of a cheap Bridges/MST3k joke, I should be ashmed of myself…

…yeah, I know, Liz doesn’t actually type that. But you know she had to backspace over it.

D’oh! Missed it by that much. I’ll have to fire Damon a Coke from my orbital railgun.

Not my lungs! All my huffing and puffing keeps me wonderfully well oxygenated!
Thanks for the heads-up, Supes – link fixed (typo).
Rev, the first Tuesday in November is when the Melbourne Cup is run. Apart from being the day when people who have no interest whatsoever in horseracing and/or gambling suddenly feel compelled to pretend that they do, it is also a day on which the mighty fine line between haute couture and Just Plain Stupid is graphically illustrated, particularly above the neck.

Aww, it’s just a horse race? I’m not dragging a hat out of mothballs for that. Feh.
I was hoping it was some crazy holiday like Marti Gras or something. Ah well.

Thanks Will (or Mr. Loughlin or Sr. Cerebrophagus or whatever), I’ve been singing your little moray song in my head since Sunday night. 🙂

Likewise, Blake. It’s worse than the Jilla-Jalla-Jellyfish! 🙂
Rev, in this particular respect, our Mardi Gras doesn’t come close.
