One of the bright(er) moments for Full Moon in the late ’90s was Hideous! (1997), which features bizarrely deformed “pickled punks” turning the tables on their would-be collectors. And actress Jacqueline Lovell demonstrates hitherto unsuspected talents in the wardrobe department.

Hideous! is the only one of Charles Band’s “wee little monsters” movies that I unreservedly love. It has a sense of fun about it that’s been missing from just about everything else Band has done since his Empire Pictures days, the cast is great (for for the movie’s purposes, anyway), and the writing is unapologetically bizarre while still maintaining a significant degree of internal consistency. Also, I love the relationship between Lorca and Sheila, and it was a smart move to make the detective both the viewpoint character and the straightman for the whole enterprise.

Have you seen Gingerdead Man 2? It’s my favorite of the Full Moon “wee little monsters” movies, mainly because director William Butler vents his spleen on Charlie Band and everything he stands for.

Huh. The firewall at work lets me read Nate’s review, but not El Santo’s. Nate, would you say that anyone who casts Jacqueline Lovell is doing their movie a favor?

Yes, but she’s not doing the same roles these days. She’s older, she’s gotten away from softcore, she’s reconnected with her Catholic faith, and she’s trying to make a go of it in New York.

That’s peculiar. That’s one of my less profane reviews, too!

…and your review didn’t have suggestive screenshots, either.
