But before the winner, the runners-up! Because you all should see what we saw.
In no particular order:
Birdemic: Shock & Terror, the original:
…and two entries, from Christopher Swindell and Doctor Mabuse:
With a Mouse (to Your Mouth), the original…
…and an entry from Christopher Swindell:
And now the winner, remaking the cover of what was the first DVD featured in “Gives Me Chills,” Grave Danger. The original…
…and the redesign by David Foster:
Congratulations, David! You win… a free ebook copy of my novel The Demon Cross! Yes, I’ve been giving out free copies recently, but this one comes without the obligation to review it! (Though you can if you want to, of course.) Let me know what format you’d like it in.
Thanks for playing, everybody!

Looking these over makes me happy to have suggested the idea.
To be fair to the original movie makers, one has to give them credit for the simple fact that they actually made full-length movies and got them released. It’s easy to sit on your bottom and say “I can do better than that!” Going out and doing everything from writing a complete script to acquiring the necessary equipment to casting to post-production to arranging for distribution is the hard part.

No, one does not. Stubborn determination is not a virtue in the service of an ill-conceived goal

^^ He he. Should know better than to say that around Nathan.
I personally would have gone with the Birdemic one with the nuke, but I like cheesy. The winner is a fine choice, and I have no argument against it.

It wasn’t just me then. I liked that goofy thing with the cassowaries and explosion too.
I’m trying to figure out the significance of the winner. Is it just that Betty Page was ridiculously hot and that she makes everything better, or what?

Well, there is that, and it’s a significant factor. There’s also the fact that, despite the inherent awesomeness of cassowaries, the graphic simply didn’t work as a DVD cover, which was a significant criterion. (Criterion! Ha!)

I don’t know if I thought it should win; I just really liked its goofiness. You’re right about its unworkability as a DVD cover, though.
I wish I’d had time to compete. Maybe next time.

I’ll bet that cassowary on the right knows how to treat a female impersonator.

This was my first ever attempt at photoshopping so I realized that elegance was probably beyond my grasp. I focused my efforts towards wackiness.
I’m glad people were amused by my cassowary picture. Despite its manifest shortcomings I am strangely proud of my creation.
And what a fun little contest it was as well!

Oh wow. I thought I gone too serious, not taking the p#ss enough. In retrospect though, I should have had the evolution ‘yellow ape’ logo, devolving – going from a man to an ape.
As for the significance of the girl image (is it Betty Page?), apparently the plot is about a phone conversation…although I can’t be sure. I don’t mind making a faux cover, but I am not silly enough to get the movie imported down under to check. If anyone watches it, let me know?
I also like Christopher’s idea that these films should be given the Criterion treatment! The features would be fabulous, with knowledgeable cineastes discussing the cultural shift that was caused when ‘With a Mouse’ was released.
Cheers
D.

“is it Betty Page?”
It is indeed.
