Because I’m trying to be a more positive, less snarky human being, I shall here list all of the good points to 1993’s Leprechaun:
1) Warwick Davis! (It’s pronounced “Warrick,” by the way.)
2) To my knowledge, this movie did not contribute in any way to the electoral confusion in the state of Florida in 2000.
That’s it. You find your silver lining where you can, folks.

Wait, it’s pronounced “Warrick”? Huh… those British and their weird pronunciations… (-:

It’s the Greenwich “w”, which also means that all the Lovecraft fans are pronouncing “Dunwich” wrong.

I’ve only seen “Leprechaun 2,” which features one of the most interesting death-by-nudity scenes I’ve ever seen and a clever false scare scene provided by a spring-loaded Tony Cox (or an actor who looked like him–stupid work firewall prevents me from checking at the IMDB).

I don’t know, Nathan. I could get on board with the idea that this movie’s influence warped time and space enough to cause a whole bunch of chads to remain stubbornly attached to their ballots years later…

Nah. It’s not all that.

How is “A nubile Jennifer Aniston running around in tight shorts and a tank top” not one of the postives for this movie?…
This is one of those movies that I like more than they probably deserve on their own merits.
When I first saw it in high school, my sister watched with me, and ended up being traumatized by, of all things, the pogo stick death. She went and told our parents and I got in trouble, as if I was forcing her to watch it or something. This was long before DVR so I couldn’t rewind it and show them that the whole thing was so retarded that she shouldn’t have been affected by it (especially since she had friends whose parents let them watch slasher movies, and thus had seen Ft13th and NoES entries years earlier). I was especially confused because I found the whole thing hilarious.
The upside is that I got to mock her for it for a couple of years afterwards. To this day, it’s still my favorite scene in the whole movie.

You mean the character or the actress? I’m assuming the character…
Anyway, I still label her outfit as a positive.

I don’t really know that there’s a distinction here.

This is one of the few cases where the second and fourth films in a franchise far surpass the original. Well, the fourth film at least has the advantage of being just plain insanely weird.

And since I now own 2, 3 and 4, I suppose I’ll watch them eventually.

Stomp Tokyo actually liked (to a certain extent) the first Leprechaun in the Hood film, which is a weird example of a franchise starting a sub-franchise, but with the same main character.

It must have done okay, since the next movie was Leprechaun Back 2 the Hood, which was the first time the franchise had repeated itself on setting/gimmickry instead of simply flailing about.

“There’s nothing a man finds more attractive in a woman than a passion for tarantulas”? Because honestly, I couldn’t tell you how many times in my life I’ve heard that line.

“Nothing” might be overselling it a bit, but a passion for tarantulas (or goliath beetles, or emperor scorpions, or Scolopendra centipedes, or Madagascar hissing cockroaches…) is certainly a plus so far as I’m concerned.

I’d substitute giant milipedes for centipedes (centipedes are the one critter that hits something primal in my brain), but yeah, otherwise I’m with you.
That may be a minority opinion, of course…especially in a land like Lyz’s where, what, 95%* of the wildlife can kill you in a heartbeat?
*The other 5% just maims you.

I adore Lyz and all, but….no. Just….no.
Except the prop one in Centipede!. That was kind of cute, although it seemed to be based less on real ones and more on the mutated one from the “Parasite Eve” video game.
