Try as I might, I could not come up with a comic explanation for what Z.P.G. stands for that also simultaneously summed up the movie’s quality. So you’ll just have to read the review itself to find out if the movie is worth your time or not. Sorry.

I can remember this one turning up in the very early days of the SciFi channel, back when they had very little budget and a lot of hours of programming time to fill with obscure, inexpensive old flicks. Even then I thought it was a monumentally stupid and ham-handed attempt at “socially relevant” SF, with a dreadful and untenable ending. These are not people with a chance to have developed any sort of survival skills, so ….

Perhaps it’s an “idea picture” — someone heard about the actual ZPG movement, and decided it would make a good background for a dystopian SF story (pre-Logan’s Run, I note, though well after the novel was published), but didn’t get round to filling in any more society than was absolutely necessary for explanation.
I’m reminded of the rather dire Hardware, where… do I need spoiler warnings for a 23-year-old film? I’ll assume not, so feel free to wipe this comment if I do.
Anyway. Where it turns out that the murderous robot is in fact part of a plan to reduce the human population (one by one), and it spends an entire night just trying to reduce the population of this single apartment (and largely failing).

I realize it’s pointless in mentioning it here, but I think Leonard Maltin gave this three stars.

Actually, Leonard Maltin’s movie guide gives the movie just two stars. He calls it a “sci-fi tale with style but no class.”
