Continuing my month-long binge of first (and often only) sequels, this week’s offerings are Killjoy 2 (2002), a follow-up to a movie that no one wanted followed up, and Excessive Force 2: Force on Force (1995), a follow-up which is in no way a follow-up to the movie it follows up.

He looks alarmingly like the Grinch, but with Alice from Dilbert’s hair. This is one of those looks which is silly in a film, but which would scare the shit out of me in real life.

There’s always a bit of a giddy flashback to when I’d rent any video tape laying around my usual video store whenever I come across a review of a cheesy action film and realize that I’ve seen it. This happened with Excessive Force 2, along with the realization that I’m probably one of the few who has seen both Excessive Force movies. Granted now it’s basically the same thing, just with DVDs.

That’s better than what I do too often: read to the end of a review and ask, “Wait — have I seen that?” (What’s worse is when it turns out I’ve not only seen it, I’ve reviewed it.)

I would’ve thought that reviewing a movie would guarantee a place for it in one’s long-term memory. Turns out that I’m wrong about that.

It depends on the film. I did a piece on Submerged for The Agony Booth and thankfully enough, I’ve forgotten most of it save for the fact that it’s an action movie where not a hell of a lot happens. Sadly enough, this is reflected in the recap.

The few Sci-Fi movies that make it here are, for some reason, usually re-titled. I keep getting about a third of the way through a film and becoming convinced I’ve seen it before….and then I realise that I’ve just read Scott Foy’s review of it under another name.

Some movies retain their original filming title when they make it here. The title card for the Rock’s “The Rundown” reads “Welcome to the Jungle”. Same thing goes for JCVD’s “Double Team”, which retains the original title, “The Colony” down here.

I noticed this here in Brazil, too, Lyz. The English title to some of them have “Man” in them: “Larva” is called “Morph Man”, “Mansquito” is “Mosquito Man”, and “Snake King” is called “Snake Man.” I think the only one where the two titles matched was “Skeleton Man.”

Well, at least the clown doesn’t look like the love child of Pennywise and Pipi in the sequel.

That’s right. In the sequel, it’s more like the lovechild of Pennywise and Leona Helmsley.

I’ve been gone the past two weeks, but I think there’s a major typo in your review. You see, you typed KILLJOY 2, and that can’t possibly be right, because there’s no way a KILLJOY 2 would ever be conceived of, much less made.
