Time for a little more SCIENCE IN THE REEL WORLD:
Yellow Jack (1938) – set in Cuba at the conclusion of the Spanish-American War, the true(ish) story of Major Walter Reed and his team, and their search for the truth about the transmission of yellow fever
Without Love (1945) – which offers the somewhat unlikely sight of Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy falling in love over the development of an experimental oxygen delivery system for high altitude aviation

Yay! More “Reel World” from Lyz!
On the “Yellow Jack” movie, I think I’d rather just find a good history book on the subject. I’m always interested in the US Army, whether it’s combat history or medical, but the movie sounds “meh” at best, huh? That is really interesting that Walter Reed codified Informed Consent, though, and that Nurse Maass died from trying to save so many.
“Without Love” sounds very interesting-Tracy, Hepburn, *and* aviation? Me Likey! I’m going to see if Netflix has this one.
Have to agree,too-I *cannot* see Katherine Hepburn playing the “frail female”! Not after “African Queen” and “Rooster Cogburn”! 🙂

Or The Lion In Winter? (Kate is actually descended from Eleanor of Aquitaine, or so they say.)
Yellow Jack isn’t a bad film, but, as I say, it’s obviously uncomfortable with its own subject matter and a bit mealy-mouthed as a consequence. It does a fair job of outlining the story, though, so if you’re interested in the topic it’s a good place to start.

Perhaps the “Without Love” publicists were working from an earlier version of the script? Two interesting reviews, as always.

Maybe I will give it a look, then! My Dad was in the Army as a combat medic and a Dental Tech (he could live off post with my Mom with the Dental job-this was the early 60s ) :), so I think that’s why I got interested in military medicine.
I didn’t know Kate was descended from Eleanor! Cool! I’m ashamed, I haven’t seen “The Lion In Winter” yet, but I’m not as bad as my best friend Mark. He is 39, owns like every Anime, but has never seen “Caine Mutiny”, “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”, or “Casablanca”! I’m trying to fix that.
