Sadly, the Green Slime is the same full screen print I think they’ve shown before, with window boxed credits. I wonder if the widescreen master has been lost.

I feared as much. They showed a pan-n-scan of “Close Encounters” not that long ago. I know The Trash Palace used to sell a widescreen bootleg of this, but at last check it’s no longer on the menu. So, it is out there, somewhere.

I fear that, being a co-production, the widescreen master may be in Japan. Available, but probably too expensive to be worthwhile for the US market.

Sorry to hear it. I fear Scott is correct, and that the widescreen master of the American version is perhaps lost. Otherwise surely MGM would have released it as part of their Midnite Movies line, right?
Toho put out a R2 widescreen DVD of the Japanese version, which is much shorter (apparently the head butting between the males leads is radically truncated) but only in Japanese without even English subtitles.
Let’s hope whoever buys out MGM eventually stumbles across the letterboxed American master when they do inventory and actually decides to release it.

And there’s no title song in the Japanese version, either. The movie isn’t quite as much fun without the title song.

Considering some of the complete crap MGM/Sony/Whoever-Owns-the-MGM-Library-This-Week has remastered, I can’t imagine why they’d skip Green Slime. Green Slime would probably sell better than a lot of movies.

That’s always been my thought, too. I mean, stuff like Monster Island comes, but not Green Slime? It’s a weirdness.
