It’s been a long, long time… but the B-Masters are finally back in our own website. Like most things brought back to life in the movies, we’re missing a few pieces here and there, but that’s no reason we can’t have our Colin Clive moment of triumph. IT’S ALIVE! ALIVE! IT’S ALIVE!!

And what better way to celebrate our resurrection than with a Roundtable — our first in a full year? This time our subject is (appropriately enough) movies about coming back from the dead. To start things off, here’s a review of one of the most infamous films about Those Who Return: Lucio Fulci’s City of the Living Dead (1980), a.k.a. Gates of Hell.

Oh man, was I excited when I went to the temporary address and saw the redirect! Congratulations on your resurrection, B-Masters! May you shamble on for years to come.

So not only are our beloved B-Masters back, but we’re getting what’s more or less a zombie roundtable. And just in time for my birthday.
Happy (early) birthday to me, indeed.
If I’d had a heads-up on it I’d have put this was on the short list for Will since there aren’t a lot of Euro-zom movies left he hasn’t touched on, and not a lot of Fulci movies, either (as far as I know; I’m not the Fulci expert here).
Where will Ken go since he’s done Zombi 3 already (I have a guess or two)? What will Canadian Keith dig up? Will American Keith find another insane Indian movie? Will Dr. Freex squeeze in a review (which would be totally appropriate for this roundtable)? What about Lyz and Andrew and El Santo? Did I miss anyone?
Is that enough questions from me?

Actually, anything involving the return of the dead — zombies, ghosts, mummies, reincarnation, rehabilitated child stars’ careers — is fair game for this one.
To be honest, I kind-of sprung the site resurrection on my fellow B-Masters after sitting on my hands for several months. We’d discussed our Roundtable a while ago, but I really didn’t give everybody much advance notice when the time came. Mea culpa. We may need to extend this one into March, just to be fair.
(Oh — and I take it back about the rehabilitated child stars.)

Oh, I figured other things were possible, but the zombies are my favorite of them so of course I’m going with that. Especially when the first review is zombies.
As often happens when I read a review from a B-Master, I find myself considering going back to a movie I’ve not watched in ages. I picked this up (same VHS you did) for dirt cheap back in college. I watched it twice; the 2nd time was not long after the first and for much the same reasons you rewatched it, to see if I was missing some vital clue to the plot. My only previous Fulci movie was Zombi 2 which is much more linear and logical; I was not prepared for what I got, other than the mentions of the gore highlights that were mentioned in the blurb in my video guide.
After your words and position on it nowadays, I’ll have to think about finding a DVD, or just digging up the VHS and dusting off the VCR. Maybe the Roku has it…

That’s okay. It just so happens that one of the reviews I’ll be posting this weekend concerns several different forms of resurrection. I’ll just slap your “It’s Alive!!” banner across the bottom of the page, and it’ll look like we had the whole thing planned.

Great! Just don’t tell anybody. I wouldn’t want to give the wrong impression.

Well, we got most of the regularly-posting B-Masters to rise from the dead. Better than none of them!
