Producers Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus managed to get an unforgettable cast for Sword Of The Valiant. They got Sean Connery, Trevor Howard, Peter Cushing, and John Rhys-Davies. And Miles O’Keeffe. Well, I did say the cast was unforgettable.

How Much Keeffe Is In This Movie Anyway?
(And yes, I know MST3K got over-quoted in the same way Monty Python did, and was never perfect, but it did point out to a young Roger that there was more to the art of enjoying bad films than Plan 9 from Outer Space.)
Yeah, now that’s how I’d expect Golan and Globus to pull off a film with many Big Names in it – have them on for a few minutes each so that their filming can be done in a day or two. I’m guessing they don’t interact with each other much, only with the lead?

Yes, you’re right – the Big Names in the cast don’t interact with each other that much, if at all. It’s mostly O’Keeffe in the spotlight.

One factor contributing to the remoteness of O’Keeffe’s performance in Sword of the Valiant may be that his voice was dubbed in post-production by Peter Firth. I can’t call up a memory of O’Keeffe’s real voice, but he grew up in Tennessee, and he’d been acting for only three years when this movie was made. Unless he just had a natural gift for accents, it seems perfectly reasonable to me that Golan and Globus would want someone else to do his talking for him in an Arthurian fantasy film.

Thanks for that information, El Santo. That dubbing may have indeed played a part in the lacklustre vibe I felt coming from O’Keeffe.

Regarding O’Keeffe’s hair, he was in a band and retained ridiculously long hair throughout this period. As Ken begg observed, it was long and thick enough to keep out anything from falling masonry to buzz bombs. Personally I think it should have been combed down in front of his face and left that way, but that’s just me when it comes to Fabio lookalikes–or Fabio himself for that matter.
