The Bert I. Gordon movie Empire Of The Ants must have been seen as old fashioned and out of date to audiences even back in 1977.

Would’ve thought Collins would be in full Joan Collins Bitch Mode (TM) filming this, but according to Gordon, she was co-operative. Other than refusing, understandably, to go in the water. There’s even behind the scenes shots of her playfully nuzzling up to the ant. Probably her best prospect out of that cast.

Your review is spot on–this movie is just dull. Which is a shame, it actually had an interesting take on the giant ant trope (kind of like a cross between Phase IV and Them), but its just so poorly implemented.

I’ve been hanging around here long enough that “Director: Bert I. Gordon” is a giveaway. Though looking at his filmography he does seem to have branched out from overlay/size-effect pics, and I’m curious as to what any of the B-Masters might make of his other material.
