Although I do need to get a bunch of repair work done on my left knee…
Child’s Play (1988), in which getting the thing you want most for your birthday kind of sucks sometimes…
Madman (1980), which completes the informal trilogy of early-80’s slasher flicks rooted, to one extent or another, in the legend of Cropsey…
She (1935), in which a more relatable Leo Vincey has an altogether less reprehensible reason to venture into the kingdom of She Who Must Be Obeyed…
She (1965), in which She Who Must Be Obeyed goes looking for Leo Vincey for once…
and…
Trick or Treat (1986), a movie I’d certainly have included in my Satanic Panic theme update a few years ago, if only I’d been able to remember what it was called.

Glad I am not the only one with a bit of love for Trick or Treat. First saw it in my college years when I was really sick and decided that a mini marathon of crappy movies featuring Gene Simmons would make me feel better, so I rented that one and the much, much worse (but obscenely entertaining) Never Too Young to Die as double feature while stoned to the gills on NyQuil. The killing kids by shooting lightning from your electric guitar scene may remain my all-time favorite high school revenge fantasy.

Trick or Treat is a good time, at least compared to Black Roses. Last year I saw Shocktober Blood, which was pretty amusing, although take that with a grain of salt because part of my delight was due to the band Sorcery being involved. Earlier this year I was able to put to rest one of those “saw a movie in high school, forgot everything save one detail, couldn’t figure out what it was for many years, then stumbled upon it and solved the mystery” deals with Shock ’em Dead, which was okay (dragged in places, was great fun in others).
Madman ranks on the upper end of the slasher Bell curve, in my opinion, although admittedly that’s damning with faint praise. My favorite parts are the theme song, and the one guy who’s left in a predicament for who knows how long, and just as he’s about to finally escape Marz shows up and nonchalantly offs him. That hit my dark spot just right.
I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally need to get Child’s Play taken care of.
