One of Paramount’s rare but always fascinating ventures into screen horror, this adaptation of H. G. Wells’ The Island Of Dr Moreau not only upped the ante on Wells himself, but pushed the boundaries of contemporary screen censorship as far as they could go.
Horror, violence, sex, blasphemy, mad science—ahh, good times!
Liz Kingsley is the insane genius behind And You Call Yourself a Scientist!

I’ve seen several versions of this story; I think the only somewhat well-known one I haven’t is the one from the ’70s. This one is still easily the best, in large part because of the great Charles Laughton.
Bizarrely, I’d probably pick The Twilight People as my second favorite.

Y’know, okay, this is a good movie, but plenty of good movies would benefit from humorous captions to the images (in their reviews). I’m just sayin’.
“Sometimes I think you’re mad.”
“I AM!”
(I’ve spent years thinking that came from “Island of Lost Souls” but turns out it apparently came from “Man-Made Monster.” Go figure.)
