Hard to say why an actor’s star rises or falls, but Weller (who really impressed me in Robocop) had more recently made Robocop 2 and the rather weirdly dismal Cat Chaser. I get the impression that if you’ve got a couple of recent failures behind you as an actor or a director the accountants say “you were associated with these unprofitable films, we don’t care whether or not you were the reason why, we don’t want to risk you being the cause of our film failing”.

Thank you, Roger. Your theory is very plausible. There is also always the chance that Weller though that the filming in Malaysia would make a nice working vacation.
