#Six months to live! That’s all they gave him!#
It’s been a while since I last saw this one, but even as Diet Coke Airplane, I was rather fond of The Big Bus and have wondered why it didn’t get more attention. There are lines from it I still remember and quote nowadays.
“You eat one lousy foot and they call you a cannibal!”

I think the crucial note that Airplane hit dead on was to start with a serious script, and actors who’d play it seriously, and then make it funny. (Which may be why Stephen Stucker stands out: he’s playing in a comedy, while everyone else is in a drama that’s also funny.) The Big Bus spends a lot less time on making me care about the characters, and a lot more on plain old jokes, and at feature film length that doesn’t work well for me.
But I still have a soft spot for it.
