This cover could definitely be worse — the use of Comics Sans comes to mind — but still:
Note: If you’ve made your video cover in PhotoShop in less than three minutes, you could probably afford to spend a little more time on it.

Are these cover scans you keep posting things from your screener pile? I mean to say, are you actually going to be expected to watch the movies associated with them?

Oh, HELL no. I just find them trolling the new releases on Amazon.

Don’t you fear that by giving these covers attention on the blog, the filmmakers may retaliate by tracking you down and sending you a screener?

That says Black Mountain Madman right? It’s kinda hard to tell, what with my eyes bleeding from the strain of trying to read that thing.
I’m not the world’s greatest artist myself, but by God I could have done a better job than that. My dachshunds could. Easy.

Is that intended to be some sort of machete? Because if it is, then I once knew a dog who could have drawn a better picture in the snow.

Some sort of polearm, maybe?

Possibly…but it seems to be rather simplistic, even for a polearm.

This kind of polearm is called a bill or bill hook:

Well, maybe that IS what they were going for. My comment about the dog I once knew still stands, tho’.

It looks to me like… Damn it. I can’t remember what the things are called, but they’re for pruning trees. And yeah, they do look quite a bit like medieval polearms– which is not altogether surprising, given that many if not most medieval polearms were adapted from farming implements of one sort or another.

What’s the movie about?
A madman.
Where’s it set?
Black Mountain.
Has the MPAA seen it?
No.
Does the madman have a big sharp … thingy?
Yes, indeed he does.
Where does he keep his big sharp whatsit?
He keeps it in a featureless obsidian void.
This cover gets the job done, guys. It’s so perfect it’s almost beautiful.

You are therefore the target audience for this design’s appeal.

I think it’s adorable how they let us know that it’s the “Unrated Version”, as if they’re trying to convince us it actually got some kind of theatrial or major TV release.
