Kobayashi Masaki’s first colour film is an anthology of four ghost stories, in which the meetings of humans and spirits have an impact upon both.
Both chilling and sad in its implications, Kwaidan is also a stunning exercise in visual style.

I hope you all went and found the movie before, or at least after, reading this review. If not, you are missing out on quite an experience. “The Woman of the Snow” alone justifies the effort. Between the amazing production design, Bava-esque use of color, the emotional roller-coaster the story presents, the great story itself, and the stand-out performance from Keiko Kishi (which should be held among the great performances in horror, I believe), I would be hard pressed to think of a movie anthology segment that surpasses it.
