It’s a little known fact that nothing inspires song-writers quite like films about disgusting creepy goo…
Steven McQueen vs rampaging red jello!
Richard Jaeckel vs rampaging green polyps!
Liz Kingsley is the insane genius behind And You Call Yourself a Scientist!

Aw, how sweet of you to say so! So much kinder than “The Roundtable is really late this month!” 😀

It’s funny, when I read the roundtable theme, the first thing that jumped into my mind was The Blob’s theme song.
I love that Green Slime theme song YouTube video.

I’d be embarrassed to tell you how many times I’ve played both those clips while working on all this…

Lyz, I noticed that there are two versions of your Green Slime review, the older one still being accessible via the blog. In the new review, I missed your referral to Horton’s character as “I’m a Smug Bastard” Rankin.

Oh, I’m not the only one that thought that? Cool. I feel a little better about my nit-pickery now.

Yyyyeah, I did think about that; but in the end I figured that calling him “a smug, smarmy, self-satisfied butt-wipe” was probably sufficient… 🙂
There are ongoing issues with the index which I’ve been meaning take another look at, so thank you for the reminder.

Ah, but how do they compare to “Do the Jellyfish” from Sting of Death?

They’re both quite a bit better, unsurprisingly. I mean, come on, man.

BUT—“The Jilla Jalla Jellyfish” ALSO deals with oozy stuff, so my point remains valid! 😀
(Pssst. The Rev has issues with the JJJ; best not to mention it in his presence…)

Wella, that was the case, my Cinderella. What happened? I’ll tella.
Sandy inadvertently lifted that curse five years ago with the horror that is Daniel der Zauberer, when this fella said he’d rather watch the JJJ sequence on infinite repeat than continue with that funky hunka junky. I sincerely meant it, and ever since I’ve not been haunted by a Jilla or a Jalla, which is swella. Hella, I actually sing along with it on occasion.
Still, it is not in the same league as those other two songs, by any reasonable metric.
You know, this leads me to wonder if someone still has that video of Ken dancing next to a jellyfish tank and singing the song. When they showed it to me years ago, I was too busy shrieking death threats at them to appreciate how absolutely precious Ken’s little routine was. Seriously, if I had a copy of that, I’d proudly show it to everyone I know.

I remember seeing The Green Slime on TV in a Saturday late-night double bill with Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster. The programmers may have picked that combo because the Godzilla also has both a disco scene and a song with terrible lyrics.
Hmm, after a Google search, I stand corrected. It has at least two such songs.

The Blob is a wonderful movie and The Green Slime sounds like a do-not-miss.
My favorite B title theme songs may be “The Maddest Story Ever Told” from Spider Baby, and “Eaffin’ and Surfin'” from Rat Pfink A Boo Boo. For my taste the Bacharach Blob song is rather lightweight.

I heard a Fantomas cover of that years ago, but hadn’t seen the movie and wondered what the song had to do with what I knew of it. I ended up deciding they’d perhaps done a song loosely based on the title or something (Mike Patton is not exactly a stranger to bizarre crap). And then I saw the movie last year, and, well…that was the song after all. It is pretty nifty, though.
