After crash landing on an alien planet, the crew of a spaceship is stalked and killed by their greatest fears. Of course one of the crew is a buxom blonde female, and of course her biggest fear is that a giant worm will suck off her clothes before it slimes her to death.
Review Snippet:
Faced with unseen bogeymen and an unknown force that is keeping the ship from blasting off, the crew decides to explore their surroundings. “Why don’t we all go for a stroll on the Haunted Planet in the Galaxy of Terror?” Great idea, guys. I cannot fathom what you might find besides your own grisly deaths, but have fun.
Something to watch for:
3 mins – It looks like a muffler, but it shoots laser beams. I think it’s a gun.

Somebody named a website after this movie once… I think it was a collection of their favorite R-rated rape scenes, or something. It’s apparently gone now.

I wonder how much hate mail the guy received for that site (conversely, if I found out how much mail he got in favor of his site, I’d probably feel the need to just bomb all of humanity).

No, like most fetish sites, it was a great deal more specific than that. It was a collection of scenes in which women are sexually molested by monsters, with Galaxy of Terror‘s worm-rape given the place of honor for obvious (if also very disturbing) reasons. If I’m remembering right, it had clips from Humanoids from the Deep, the impregnation bit from Inseminoid, King Kong stripping Fay Wraty, the panty-sniffing scene from The Monster of Piedras Blancas, a bunch of Asian stuff most people wouldn’t want to think about…

That should have been “Fay Wray,” obviously. Stupid fingers.

This is one time when I’m glad I don’t know as much as Santo.

God, I just bought this movie a few weeks ago. This is one of the most gloriously tasteless, yet still entertaining things I’ve ever seen. I highly recommend grabbing the DVD. It’s worth it, believe me.

Personally, I’ve always avoided this one like the plague. Much like Inseminoid.

Blake & SSM: It was indeed fairly icky seeing the stuff all concentrated like that, but not something I felt any need to get bent out of shape over. Sexuality is weird, and people can’t help what turns them on. So long as nobody who isn’t a consenting adult is getting hurt, I’m content to follow the “If you don’t like it, don’t look at it” rule. I remember having a conversation with a friend once on the subject of 70’s and 80’s rape-revenge movies; when we got around to The Last House on the Left, she started going off about how hot the forced-lesbianism scene was. Naturally, I was pretty flabbergasted, especially hearing that sentiment expressed by a woman, and she replied with a line that I’ll remember as long as I live: “I like some things that are not okay.”

The worm attack scene is definitely the most famous part of the film. Watching the documentary (mostly interviews) that is included with the new DVD, it sounds like the scene was much more lurid before they had to edit it for the MPAA rating.
Besides Dameia’s death by worm sucking, the movie is a solid science fiction horror with a fair amount of exploitation-quality blood and guts. The sets and acting are pretty darn good.

OK, this is getting spooky. You guessed it: TCM’s playing this on November 12th.
Seriously, TCM, stop it.
